Now Is The Time To Plan For Your Spring Landscape Design Project.

Landscape Design Huntington Long Island NY

Even while we are in the midst of winter on Long Island, it’s important to plan ahead for your spring landscape design project. The winter off season is the perfect time for pre-planning your project because it’s gives a homeowner the opportunity to list all the current features they enjoy about their current landscape, and any they would like to improve upon. Many homeowners enhance the look of an area within their current
landscaping, for example a pool area. Enhancing a pool area with a stone patio or water feature will dramatically improve the overall look of an outdoor space, and how it’s enjoyed during the summer season.

Maybe you want to improve your outdoor space with plants, and shrubs. Autumn Leaf’s design team will help choose plants that will best compliment your landscape and exiting architecture. Our 3D design software will help you visualize how specific plantings will complement the style of your home and the overall outdoor space you will enjoy them in this summer.

What about hardscapes? In your spring pre-planning you can decide on what type of hardscapes you want to add to the front or rear areas of your home. There are a few important items you will need to plan for, including permits, and any specific town zoning laws. It’s best if you consult with Autumn Leaf’s landscape architect, and cover the many options that will safely integrate with your existing architecture, while meeting the
specific laws, and guideline of your area.

With a bit of proper planning with one of our design consultants during the off season, you and your family will be able to enjoy a resort style space for years to come. To get started on your project contact your friends at Autumn Leaf Landscape and design 631-424-5544.

There are so many different patio materials to consider in a patio design for your landscape or pool area. At Autumn Leaf we review examples of completed jobs during our consultation so we can get a feel for what you envision for your patio design project. When we begin the design process we utilize 3D rendering software that will illustrate how your project will look in its completed state.

We offer homeowners the option to choose from many materials for a new patio build. Overall we will recommend the right materials based on the location, budget and the overall design elements of your existing landscape.

Many materials will work well in a patio design for your outdoor living space or pool area. Your final decision will be based on your budget, and vision for your homes newly designed landscape. Here are a few examples of available materials.

  • Real Stone – Natural looking, and long lasting.
  • Stone Veneer – The benefits of real stone, but lighter and less expensive.
  • Brick – Very traditional, lasts a long time, can be new or recycled bricks. Different design patterns and configurations are possible. Not quite as expensive as stone.
  • Pavers – Man made stone that offers an elegant finished product.

Adding Real Value to your Home with Paving Stone Patios

Here are some Simple Tips to Help Create a Hardscaping Masterpiece:

Choose your Style: With so many styles and patterns of paving stones to choose from you might be overwhelmed at first. It’s always best to visit the dealers to see the products on display.  Do you want your paving stones to be consistent in size and shape? Do you what to incorporate unique and stylish patterns? With specific brands such as Unilock, Techo-Bloc and EP Henry, you can create designs, colors and patterns previously resembling natural stone. With paving stones you can also create monograms, edge walkways and incorporate different shapes into your patio. Create different effects using small bricks or large molded slabs. If you choose to use the same size paving stones, angling the stones horizontally and vertically will make a big difference.  We are never afraid to experiment with the use of shapes and texture in different directions to form designs within the patio.

Choose your Patio Surface: Depending on the look you want for your patio, the surface you choose to build it with can say everything. These days a durable surface can last for generations to come, can be easy to clean or replace and can keep the desired look you want all year round. If you are going for a natural, untamed look, paving slabs will work as well as stone and offer more versatility in color and texture. Since they are a concrete product, they don’t heat up in the sun therefore are cooler to walk on barefoot.  Use rough pieces of flagstone for your patio, or choose from manufactured stone that comes in uniform dimensions and thicknesses. Stones with lower porosity are more durable and last longer than stones that absorb lots of water. If you are considering stone, be sure to take porosity, durability, and hardness into account.

Include Landscape Elements: When designing your paving stone patio keep in mind the elements that will be included with the patio once it’s competed. These will include benches, landscape lighting, planters, fountains/ water effects, pergola’s and any other item that will be a permanent fixture to your completed patio design. Don’t forget about landscaping. You may have views that need to be blocked or enhanced when viewing your yard from your new patio. If you have an area that slopes into your patio, you may want to use a retaining wall to keep it in place. You can also use plants and shrubs that will further compliment the shapes and colors you choose.
