Follow These Steps to Find the Right Paving Stones for You.

1. Choose your Style of Paving Stone

   The overall style will help you narrow down the selection. Do you want your paving stones to be consistent in size and shape? Large or small? What type of pattern? Do you want to use the paving stones to create a monogram or edge your walkways? Do you want to incorporate shapes into your patio? Angle the stones horizontally and/or vertically?

2. Choose your Patio Surface

   The surface will make a big difference on the look of your patio. A durable surface can last for generations, can be easily cleaned or replaced and look the way you want all year around.
   For a natural untamed look, paving slabs work as well as stone and offer more versatility in color and texture. Because they're concrete, they don't heat up in the sun so they're cooler to walk on barefoot. Textured slabs with uniform dimensions resemble flagstone.
   Tip: Less porous stones are more durable and last longer. If you are considering wet cast pavers, consider sealing and protecting them.

3. Remember Landscape Elements

   Keep in mind the elements that will be included with the patio once it's competed, like benches, landscape lighting, planters, fountains and other water effects, pergolas and other permanent fixtures.

Tip: Don't forget about landscaping. You may have views that need to be blocked or enhanced when viewing your yard from your new patio. If you have an area that slopes into your patio, you may want to use a retaining wall to keep it in place. You can also use plants and shrubs that will further compliment the shapes and colors you choose.
